Here are some tips for installing your iPhone or iPad or iPad Mini in your kayak:

  • Put your device in a waterproof case and secure it to your Kayak.
  • It should be in a location that allows you to reach it if necessary to adjust the angle or the Screen Brightness by swiping the Compass. In a surfski, try attaching it to the foot strap and in a K1, a mount over your feet may work best.
  • If you are using the stroke rate, power and force facilities, it should be attached so that it doesn't move about independently of the boat. The internal accelerometer is used to monitor stroke force, so the more closely the device moves with the boat, the better the accuracy. It is also important to set your weight in Settings so that the calculations are accurate.
  • For long paddles, an external battery pack can effectively triple the time that your device can operate. You should test this before hand. Electronics retailers sell cable glands that can take a USB cable through a waterproof case to external batteries.
